What’s SLI?
I just got a 3870 and it seems to handle almost everything i throw at it at max settings(COD4, UT3, Crysis, etc.). And a 3870 is almost == to a 8800 so yeah a 8600 is pretty good for most games

Blizzard games are usually very playable. I doubt you’ll need a monster PC to play them.
Yeah if you read Blizzard’s Q&A batches about SCII they say they are trying to make the game sort of low speced so that everyone can play it
Blizzard never intends to make games, especially their RTS titles, require something as high specs as like:
Call of Duty: World at War
Far Cry 2
Tom Clancy’s End War
Mirror’s Edge
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Crysis
…You get the idea, right?
Besides, Blizzard probably wants to sell as many copies of this game to people, and not everyone is a “harcore” PC gamer.
I’m still waiting for the Asia-wide national holiday when SCII is released…

SLI is when you put two nVidia cards together.
I’ve got a M1710, and it’s temps are usually killing me =/. Can play most stuff at 1200×1024 (or 1440×900 for widescreen) at high settings, with decent fps.
Blizzard seems to be liking AMD a lot, so ATI’s cards would (should) be better if all you’re going to be playing is SC2, D3, and the like. If you’ve got another $100 US (or less depending on rebates, stores, etc) to spend, go for a ATI Radeon HD 4850.

You can get playable fps for Crysis on max (assuming it’s 1920×1200 or more) settings with an 3870? Not even the X2? Nice card.

Yeah i can hit around 30FPS on Crysis with i think only shadows and one other thing turned down to medium instead of high. All though there are some parts that cause it to dip down into the low 20’s but for 100USD its pretty damn good

8600 has a crippled memory bus. 128-bit instead of the 256-bit that even the 7900 had.
The 8600 to this date is worth less than the 7600.
